Cub Scout Pack 244 was established in 1974 in partnership with Johnston Evangelical Free Church. At that time, the church was located on Merle Hay Road in Johnston (what is now Messiah Lutheran Church) and there was only one elementary school, Lawson. Space constraints at the church for pack meetings with ever growing membership, forced Pack 244 to seek a new meeting place and now most of the monthly meetings take place at Johnston Lion's Club. Starting in 2020, we have a new charter partner, Saint Paul Presbyterian Church, Merle Hay Road in Johnston. We appreciate their support and hope to have a long-lasting relationship like we did with our previous charter organization.
Pack 244 has been split three times as Johnston has grown in population and now each elementary school has its own Cub Scout pack, making a total of five packs in operation. Cub Scout Pack 244 serves youth from Beaver Creek Elementary School. Enrollment is about 35 boys in kindergarten through fifth grade, meeting as dens (groups of 6-8 boys of similar age) twice a month and as a pack, once a month. The pack plans an annual calendar in August for the upcoming year with events such as the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, service projects and JUST PLAIN FUN as part of its program.
We are a service organization and Pack 244 supports the Johnston Lion's Club, Beaver Creek Elementary School, and the Salvation Army during bell ringing season. We welcome new members at any time during the year and hope that you will consider joining our Pack.
